The Shops and Establishments Act is a state-level legislation that regulates working conditions, working hours, weekly holidays, overtime, leave, and employment terms for every commercial establishment operating in India. Every shop, office, hotel, restaurant, theatre, and other commercial enterprise must obtain registration from the state labour or commerce department within 30 days of commencing business.
