What is RCMC Registration?

The Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) is issued by Export Promotion Councils (EPCs), Commodity Boards, or development authorities recognised by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under India's Foreign Trade Policy. RCMC serves as official recognition of an exporter's membership with the relevant EPC and authorises export of regulated or restricted commodity categories. It is also a prerequisite for availing various government export incentive schemes — including the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP), advance authorisation, and EPCG schemes. RCMC applications are now filed through DGFT's unified e-RCMC module at dgft.gov.in, with automatic routing to the relevant EPC for approval. The certificate is valid for 5 years starting from 1 April and ending 31 March of the fifth year.

What is the difference between IEC and RCMC?+
IEC (Import Export Code) from DGFT is the basic registration enabling any entity to import or export. It is mandatory for all exporters. RCMC is additional authorization specifically for regulated or restricted commodity categories and for accessing government export benefits. Both are required for regulated exports.
Which Export Promotion Council should I register with?+
The EPC depends on your product category. Examples: Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) for engineering goods, FIEO for general merchandise, APEDA for agricultural products, Textile Committee for textiles, CHEMEXCIL for chemicals, SEPC for services. Golden Verdict identifies the correct EPC based on your HS code and product description.
How long is RCMC valid and how do I renew it?+
RCMC is valid for 5 years — from 1 April of the year of issue to 31 March of the fifth following year. Renewal must be applied for before the expiry date. Can I export without RCMC if I already have IEC?+
For non-regulated products, IEC alone may be sufficient. However, for regulated commodities (textiles, chemicals, engineering goods, agricultural products) and for availing export incentives (RoDTEP, EPCG, advance authorisation), RCMC is mandatory. Without RCMC, export consignments may be held at customs or export benefits denied.
What if my company details change after RCMC is issued?+
Minor changes (authorised signatory, contact details) can be updated through the EPC portal. Major changes (company name, PAN, principal place of business, product categories) require submitting an amendment application with supporting documents. Some changes may necessitate fresh RCMC issuance. Notify your EPC within 30 days of any change.
