ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is an independent international standards body that develops globally recognised standards for quality, safety, environmental management, information security, and occupational health. ISO certifications are issued by third-party Certification Bodies (CBs) — not by ISO itself — after an audit confirming the organisation meets the requirements of the applicable standard. Key standards include ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 27001 (Information Security Management), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), ISO 22000 (Food Safety), and ISO/IEC 20000 (IT Service Management). ISO certification is increasingly required for government tenders, export trade, and enterprise vendor onboarding.
ISO 9001:2015 — Quality Management System:
The world's most widely recognised quality standard. Applicable to all industry sectors. Required for most government tenders and international trade.
ISO 27001:2022 — Information Security Management:
Global ISMS standard for IT companies, SaaS, fintech, and healthcare tech. Demonstrates data security governance to enterprise clients and regulators.
ISO 14001:2015 — Environmental Management System:
For organisations committed to environmental compliance, waste reduction, and sustainable operations. Required in manufacturing and infrastructure tenders.
ISO 45001:2018 — Occupational Health & Safety:
Workplace safety management standard replacing OHSAS 18001. Required for manufacturing, construction, and high-risk operational environments.
ISO 22000:2018 — Food Safety Management:
Food safety system standard for food manufacturers, processors, distributors, and catering companies. Required by international food export buyers.

Annual surveillance audit preparation in Year 1 and Year 2
Year 0 — Certification
Gap analysis, documentation, implementation, internal audit, Stage 1 document review by CB, Stage 2 on-site audit. Certificate issued for 3 years on successful completion.
Year 1 — Surveillance Audit 1
First annual surveillance audit by the Certification Body. Verifies continued compliance with the standard. Non-conformities from the initial audit should be closed.
Year 2 — Surveillance Audit 2
Second annual surveillance audit. Assesses whether the management system is improving and addressing non-conformities identified in Year 1.
Year 3 — Recertification Audit
Full recertification audit at the end of the 3-year cycle. Successful recertification extends the certificate for another 3 years. Failure to recertify results in suspension of the certificate.
Major Non-Conformity:
A systematic failure to meet a clause of the ISO standard. Must be corrected with root cause analysis before the certificate can be issued. Serious business risk if unresolved.
Minor Non-Conformity:
An isolated lapse or deviation from the standard. A corrective action plan must be submitted. The certificate can be issued, but closure must be confirmed at the first surveillance audit.
Observation / Opportunity for Improvement:
Not a conformity issue but the CB recommends improvement. No formal corrective action required, but best practice to address before the next surveillance audit.

ISO certification requires implementing a management system (QMS, ISMS, etc.) that meets the standard's requirements, documenting policies and procedures, conducting an internal audit, and passing a certification audit by an accredited Certification Body. Golden Verdict conducts a gap analysis against your chosen ISO standard, prepares all required documentation (quality manual, policies, procedures, SOPs), trains your team on the requirements, conducts a mock internal audit, and coordinates the Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits with the Certification Body. We work with NABCB-accredited and internationally-accredited CBs.
