What is the Madrid Protocol?
The Madrid Protocol is an international treaty administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) that allows trademark owners to seek protection in multiple countries through a single 'international application' filed through their home country's trademark office. India joined the Madrid Protocol in 2013. An Indian trademark applicant or owner can file an international application through the Trade Marks Registry of India (as the Office of Origin), designating protection in any or all of the 130+ Madrid System member countries.
