What is ESI Registration?

The Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948 provides a comprehensive social security scheme for workers. The Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) administers this scheme, providing medical care, sickness benefits, maternity benefits, disablement benefits, and dependent benefits to insured employees and their families. Registration is mandatory for non-seasonal factories and establishments employing 10 or more persons (in states where the threshold is 10; some states still apply 20). Only employees earning up to ₹21,000 per month (₹25,000 for persons with disabilities) are covered. The employer contributes 3.25% and the employee contributes 0.75% of wages, totalling 4% of gross wages each month.
